Establish a disciplined, logical road map for modernization.

Once you’ve completed the Application Portfolio Rationalization and determined key information about your application environment, you’re ready to move on to the next step: the Application Modernization Assessment.

The objective of the assessment is to conduct a cursory review of your application production environment. During the assessment, you will determine the best options for modernization, identify the possible problems you may encounter and their solutions, then develop a realistic schedule for reaching your goals.

The HP approach establishes a disciplined, logical roadmap for modernization that saves time and avoids dead-ends to help you keep moving forward toward a successful completion. Led by a senior HP legacy transformation analyst, the assessment brings together key stakeholders from both your IT and business operations, joined by our own legacy modernization specialists to provide specific expertise on applications, infrastructure and processes.

Set the course for the future of your legacy systems.

As part of the Application Modernization Assessment, you’ll determine the feasibility, approach and potential benefits of migrating and modernizing. Assessment activities include:

  • Preliminary review of code metrics and project sizing
  • Preliminary review of possible approaches and long-term incremental modernization opportunities
  • Review of workload characteristics
  • Review business drivers and initial cost/benefit factors
  • Input for the development of a modernization business case

What to expect

Typical assessment outcomes focus on:

  • Determining agreed-upon common objectives and success measures
  • Determining the desired characteristics of target applications
  • Defining migration and modernization options
  • Setting expectations about likely benefits

After the assessment comes planning

The outcomes from your Application Modernization Assessment form the critical inputs for the next step: Application Modernization Planning.
