A5. HP is making no changes to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server software—this is the same packaged product software being offered by Novell.

Q1. How will support be offered for SLES products?
A1. HP software technical support (phone support) for SLES from will be bundled with each SLES subscription licenses purchased. HP customers have a choice of either 9x5 support or 24x7 support. Enhanced support levels will also be available including Support Plus, Support Plus 24, Proactive Essentials, Proactive 24, and Critical Service.

Q2. What are the HP support services available for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on HP Integrity Servers?

A2. HP offers Standard support (unlimited incidents per server, phone based, 9–5 coverage, 2-hour guaranteed response), and Premium support (unlimited incidents per server, phone based, 24×7 coverage, 2-hour guaranteed response. Coverage is based on local time zone.
Q3. Who do I call for service and support?

A3. Customers that purchase SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating systems from HP should call HP for both OS and server support.

Q4. How does HP service and support differ from the Novell service and support?

A4. HP offers comprehensive service levels for our global customers, such as a Standard, and Premium levels for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. HP provides the Level 1 and 2 support service and is always the customer point of contact. Novell provides backend Level 3 support to HP.
Q5. How long are SUSE Linux Enterprise Server products supported?
A5. Novell will provide a minimum of five years General Support for platform and operating system products, including its revisions, starting with the date of a product's general availability. Questions on Installation
Q1. How do I install the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system if I chose not to receive a media kit?

A1. Customers can choose to download the SLES operating system directly from Novell web site and NOT receive a media kit from HP containing the software. This will occur when the media option AJR is deselected from the order. (The media kit option is always selected by default.)

SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server is available for download for each available platform as four CD ISO images or one DVD ISO image.

  1. Register and log in at www.novell.com/reg. Registration is free.
  2. Click on downloads and then select SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
  3. Files with "ia64" in the name are for the Itanium® platform.
  4. Download the ISO images to a workstation or to a network drive.
  5. Create CDs or a DVD from the ISO images.

Important: Create the CDs or DVD using the contents of the ISO images. Do not create the CDs or DVD by burning the .iso files themselves to CD or DVD. For example, if you're using K3b to burn a CD, click Tools > CD > Burn CD Image, select the .iso image, then click Burn.

Q2. How do I register and update my SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system?

A2. Novell Customer Center simplifies the process of product activation, registration, and subscription management. The Products & Subscriptions option on the navigation panel on the left presents a consolidated view of both product and subscription information.

A1. Server virtualization software allows a single physical system to run multiple, separate operating systems and their applications. The underlying virtualization software that is deployed on the server is called the host. The multiple operating systems that run in the virtualized environment provided by the host are called guests. A new virtual server can be created in a matter of seconds. Many different configurations are possible. Virtualization dramatically enhances the value of the server due to its ability to reduce IT costs through consolidation and increase IT flexibility and responsiveness.

A2. No, at this time the SLES 10 virtualization technologies are not supported on HP Integrity servers.

A3.HP Integrity Virtual Machines is a virtualization technology that enables you to create multiple virtual servers or machines within a single HP Integrity server.

HP Integrity Virtual Machines  (Integrity VM) is a soft partitioning and virtualization technology within HP's Virtual Server Environment that enables you to create multiple virtual servers or machines within a single HP Integrity server or nPartition.
