You might be surprised by how easy it is to set up wireless printing in your home or office. Discover three simple ways to connect your wireless HP printer to your existing wireless network. Either use one-touch setup, an in-printer Setup Wizard, or connect with a USB cable. See the connection requirements and availability for each method, and determine which may work best for you.
Benefits of wireless (Wi-Fi) printing
Wireless printing allows you to print from anywhere in your home and lets the entire family share a single printer.
Get a wireless-enabled printer to work with your existing wireless network, and take advantage of these benefits:
Mobility: Print from anywhere in your home using a notebook PC.
Less clutter: Say goodbye to cord clutter and the length of printer cables determining the placement of your office equipment. With wireless, a printer can even be placed out of sight in a closet or back room.
Savings: Share a single printer with an entire household or office. Save on the hardware and energy costs it would take to have a printer for each computer.
Speed and range: Wi-Fi printing is fast and has a long range of approximately 300 feet.
Each of the three wireless connection methods requires that you first have a wireless network established. A wireless network consists of the following:
Broadband Internet connection: Including a cable or DSL modem.
Wireless router: Also called a WAP or Wireless Access Point, a router is the core of a wireless network, allowing communication between your computer, printer, and the Internet.
Wireless-enabled computer: Your PC should be connected to your wireless router before you connect your printer.
Wireless-enabled printer: Many HP printers feature built-in wireless capabilities. Visit the HP Wireless printer buying guide to explore all your wireless printing options.
Overview of steps: Use your printer’s intuitive TouchSmart screen to access the Network setup menu, and select the Push Button Setup method. Press the WPS button on your router to complete the connection.
Requirements: You will need the following information to complete the setup process:
Your network name, or SSID (Service Set Identifier).
Your WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption key or WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) passphrase—also referred to as your network password.
Availability: This connection method is available on most newer wireless HP printers with a larger LCD or touchscreen display. Visit the HP Wireless printer buying guide to see the entire selection of wireless HP printers and All-in-Ones.
Overview of steps: After you access the Setup menu from your printer’s touchscreen, simply select the Wireless Setup Wizard option and choose the name of your network. After the Wizard locates your network, you will need to enter your WEP encryption key or WPA passphrase.
