Fact 2:  HP is the number 1 supplier of Itanium based systems based worldwide unit volume and worldwide factory revenue.

In the second quarter of 2007:

  • HP grew Itanium server revenue and units faster than the overall market.
  • HP’s Integrity server (including Integrity NonStop) revenue grew 42.3% year-over-year and grew faster than the overall market.

These benchmarks represent world record results versus all other results from any vendor.

Fact 4: Respondents name HP-UX 11i as their strategic consideration choice for 2008 deployment.[4]

  • In an October 2005 study, “The State of the Corporate PC and Server”, analyst firm Forrester surveyed 60 North American enterprises and asked, “Which vendor platforms do you consider – based on financial investment, not server count, to be strategic platforms for your UNIX (non-Linux) server deployments? Now, 2005 and in 2008.”

  • HP-UX 11i on Itanium scored first as the operating system/platform pair for 2008 deployment.  Further, in combination, HP-UX 11i on Itanium and on PA-RISC scored highest for operating systems on dual platforms.

Fact 5: HP-UX 11i delivers mission critical virtualization through innovation where it counts.  [5,6,7]

Operating system growth isn't so much about the operating system itself as it about the available tools and applications that support it.

  • In an IDC white paper sponsored by HP, May 2005, HP-UX 11i: A Foundation for Enterprise Computing that Delivers Business Agility Through Integrated Virtualization, Workload Management and Enhanced Security, Jean Bozman and Al Gillen comment:

"Today the industry is consolidating on a limited number of Unix distributions that offer best-of-breed capabilities, scalability and the broadest application portfolios. Within that select group, HP-UX 11i v2 is well positioned through its inclusion of features and benefits that customers can exploit to build a solution that delivers high levels of scalability yet retain the flexibility that allows the IT resources to respond to changing business needs.5"

“HP-UX 11i provides a foundation for business agility, IT simplicity, and business value through its Virtual Server Environment for HP-UX 11i.6

  • In August 2005, HP delivered security containment for HP-UX 11i version 2 secure resource partitions.  Now, HP-UX 11i delivers what other UNIX vendors don’t even claim - mission critical virtualization. And, it works without changes to your existing application and database software.7 Security containment further reduces HP-UX 11i customers’ risk of unplanned downtime – for no additional charge. That’s innovation where it counts!

Fact 6: More people choose high availability & disaster tolerant solutions on HP-UX 11i – clearly reliable across virtually unlimited distances. [8]

No other vendor claims to protect the number of mission-critical environments that HP does, with HP Serviceguard high availability and disaster tolerance clustering products—and a large installed base of servers protected by HP high-availability clustering software technologies.

  • Over 150,000 Serviceguard installations run business’s most critical applications with HP-UX 11i today – which HP believes exceeds UNIX cluster installations of any other operating system vendor.9
  • The Serviceguard based disaster tolerant solution, Continentalclusters, runs over the longest distance supported in the UNIX market, according to published product specifications -  more than 100 km and even greater distances via WAN connections -- so that the distance between systems is virtually unlimited.  Further, the integration with HP-UX 11i virtualization technologies expands HP-UX 11i systems’ capabilities across clustered remote data centers seamlessly8.

Fact 7: HP-UX 11i is the preferred platform for demanding data warehousing and business intelligence applications. [9,10,11]

To make a difference in an increasingly competitive world, enterprises require a data warehousing and business intelligence infrastructure that delivers availability, flexibility and performance.

  • HP-UX 11i was the # 1 operating environment for decision support based on worldwide revenue for the 2004 calendar year9.
  • Between May and September 2005, DM Review conducted a survey where readers voted HP Servers the best for business intelligence applications based on the quality of the products in use in their organizations and their level of customer satisfaction10. HP-UX 11i is HP’s premier platform for business intelligence.
  • On September 14, 2005, Winter Corporation, an independent consulting firm, announced the results of its 2005 Winter TopTen Program. HP achieved an outstanding nine No. 1 positions out of the sixteen data warehouse categories and had twice as many customers appearing in the TopTen than any other server vendor, clearly demonstrating HP’s market share leadership in high-end data warehousing. The survey found that 40% of the world’s largest UNIX data warehouses are running on HP-UX 11i11.

HP Virtual Server Environment for HP-UX 11i, including Serviceguard, HP-UX Workload Manager and partitioning, allows us to maximize the use of our compute resources, while gaining the flexibility to move resources around rapidly in response to changing business needs.  We also now have a higher level of availability and resilience than was possible before – all with an overall increase in performance and with a lower total cost of ownership.
