Programme overview

The HP-UX 11i: HP 9000 to HP Integrity transition modules provide information to help you plan and design a transition from HP-UX 11i running on HP 9000 servers to HP-UX 11i v2 running on Intel® Itanium®-based HP Integrity servers.
The transition modules address key topic areas of your transition, including: platform infrastructure (servers, operating systems, storage and tape devices); packaged applications from independent software vendors (isvs); databases for oracle. provide you a method framework to approach for planning, design, implementation and management phases.
The following table outlines information provided in this release:

Modules in this release

The focus of the transition modules currently available is on Planning and Design. The planning modules provide information to help you assess your own environment and conduct high-level planning. Those high-level plans are then used when entering the design phase, where more specific details on how the transition will be conducted are defined:
  • Platform Infrastructure―Planning & design module V1.: Provides high-level planning and design information and recommendations to help assess your efforts to transition platform infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, storage and tape devices
  • Packaged Applications―Planning & design module V1.2: Provides planning and design information and recommendations to help assess your efforts to transition packaged applications from independent software vendors (ISVs)
  • Database for Oracle―Planning module V1.1: Discusses why the expected impact of an Oracle database transition in your overall transition is minimal and provides a white paper for use in your transition planning

Objectives and prerequisites

Specifically, these transition modules will
  • Provide you a method and framework to approach your transition planning and design.
  • Provide you the means to begin to gauge level of effort and transition duration.
  • Save you time and effort in planning and designing your transition.
  • Help you identify the areas within each module that require further planning or design and those that do not pertain to your transition.
  • Help you define a customised plan for those areas that require further planning and design.
To get the most from these transition modules you should
  • Be familiar with your long term business and technical goals.
  • Be familiar with the current hardware and operating system environment (Platform infrastructure).
  • Be familiar with your current ISV packaged applications, if any (Packaged applications).
  • If you are making a transition with an Oracle database, understand the current overall database design and implementation; your database usage, characteristics and resource demands; and your database access points and dependencies (Database for Oracle).
  • Understand the current overall architectural implementation.
  • Be aware of any system design goals that were used in the current implementation.
  • Be aware of any system design goals that are desired for the target platform.
