Simpler operations: two people looking at laptop screen
Stop worrying. Do less and automate more with our new suite of Serviceguard Solutions that do all the hard stuff for you.
If it’s critical to your business, it needs to be highly available. However, shouldn’t it be simple too? It’s time to stop planning downtime. At HP, everything we build is integrated by design to make sure you get the most value out of your IT investment. The new enhancements within Serviceguard Solutions for A.11.19 add even more integration, automation, and intelligence to reduce your need for expertise and man-hours, allowing you to focus on more important things.

NEW! September 2009 enhancements

In September 2009, Serviceguard Solutions for A.11.19 is even easier and faster. Do more on-line without bringing your mission-critical applications down, and keep it simple with more automation and control in Serviceguard Manager.

100 percent online package maintenance

Online Package Maintenance Mode allows you to perform maintenance on Serviceguard package components while the package is running. A good example might be when you need to make some modifications to networks or EMS resources. You can think of this as being able to change a flat tire while you continue to drive your car.

Reduce downtime up to 75 percent when updating Serviceguard

Another illustration of the powerful integration you can only get from HP: Serviceguard upgrades can now be performed using HP-UX 11i v3 Dynamic Root Disk (DRD).

Upgrades and patches can take a lot of time—time to perform the upgrade, then time to reboot. DRD creates a copy of a system image, called a clone. You can then perform the upgrade on that clone, while your original active image continues to run, unaffected. Once the upgrade is completed, you can quickly and easily reboot your active image from the clone, allowing you to eliminate a huge portion of planned downtime. In addition, you can quickly revert back to the way things were in case something didn't go as planned.

Manage clusters in half the time

Tired of that clunky command line? Serviceguard Manager now has a brand new Cluster Topology Map to view cluster status at a glance, even letting you drag and drop packages from one node to the other. New built-in log viewers make it easier than ever to troubleshoot problems without having to login to each node and piece together log files. Plus, now you can use Serviceguard Manager to manage Enterprise Cluster Master Toolkit (ECMT), Serviceguard Extension for RAC (SGeRAC) and Metrocluster.

April 2009: Announcing Serviceguard A.11.19

Serviceguard Solutions for A.11.19 are faster and easier to use than ever. HP has built in more intelligence and more integration so Serviceguard does more, and you do less.

Get it done right and get it done faster

Serviceguard Enterprise Cluster Master Toolkit (ECMT) is a convenient bundle of Toolkits for your most important applications, databases, and services.
ECMT now includes three new toolkits: IBM DB2, MySQL Server and Sybase ASE.
Plus, you can deploy Oracle Databases into a Serviceguard cluster 8x faster with new flexible storage options.

Online storage changes for Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)

Perform storage changes online, such as adding or deleting a volume group from a package, while the package is running – and much more.
Plus, speed up and simplify maintenance with Maintenance Mode, allowing you temporarily to suspend Serviceguard monitoring of Oracle so you can quickly and easily perform maintenance on the database.

Cut administration time and costs by 25%

Serviceguard A.11.19 eliminates your need for custom scripting by integrating detailed dependencies between services right in the software.
Easily control when, where, and how packages run, with integrated features instead of scripts that you have to write yourself. Use an intuitive graph to preview how packages will depend on others and gain the confidence that your intricate, distinct environment is implemented correctly and fully supported.
You get greatly increased application reliability and predictability of cluster resources, while spending up to 25% less time administering those resources.

100% online cluster maintenance and configuration

100% of the most common actions typically performed on a cluster can now be done while the cluster is running.
Online cluster changes mean you can add or delete nodes or packages, change node capacities or package weights, and much more – all without bringing your application down.
That's less downtime for maintenance and management!

Reduce dependency on expertise

New cluster wizards make set-up and management a breeze. These guide you through the process of creating and configuring a high availability cluster by stepping you through the process to get the solution up and running quickly. This can greatly reduce time and expertise needed to complete cluster and package configuration.
On top of that, you can now use command preview either at the command line or through the Serviceguard Manager GUI to eliminate the guesswork from failover by seeing exactly what Serviceguard will do in a failure before it happens.

Seamless availability for virtualised environments

Automatically be given the best tool for the job with built-in intelligence to instantly recognise nodes that are running on virtual machines (Integrity VMs), hard (nPars), soft (vPars) partitions – and connecting you to the best management tool for the job.
