HP-UX 11i is sold and deployed in Operating Environments (OEs)—HP-tested and integrated software packages that deliver the HP-UX 11i operating system and related software.
OEs reduce time, risk, and costs through integration that decreases deployment time and complexity, simplifies lifetime maintenance, and reduces operations costs.
HP-UX 11i v3 OEs deliver today’s most popular HP-UX 11i software, allowing users to purchase, install, and maintain a package of up to 159 software components as one.
HP-UX 11i pricing is per-core and tiered according to server size.

The original HP-UX 11i OEs (FOE, EOE, MCOE) are no longer available for HP-UX 11i v3. HP-UX 11i v1 & v2 ship in the original OE packages.
HP ships HP-UX 11i v3 in four OEs that deliver complete software environments designed to address specific customer requirements. These OEs, which began shipping in March 2008, are available only for HP-UX 11i v3 on HP 9000 and HP Integrity servers.
The Data Center OE delivers built-in business-critical virtualization, featuring HP Serviceguard failover clusters, HP's leadership virtualization software for partitioning, virtual machine management, workload management, capacity planning, and the complementary software to ensure uninterrupted and optimized data center technology. DC-OE delivers the superset of HP-UX 11i v3 software included in the other OEs.
For customers requiring continuous access to data and applications, the HA-OE delivers the failover cluster protection of Serviceguard—the most widely used cluster software in the industry—and related software, plus all the software in Base OE. GlancePlus PAK is included for system performance analysis, plus OnlineJFS and MirrorDisk/UX for virtually unlimited file system and volume expansion.
The VSE-OE is designed for customers seeking higher resource utilization or who are embarking on consolidation projects and need virtualization for a flexible UNIX® environment. The VSE-OE contains all the products included in the BOE plus partitioning, virtual machine management, workload management, capacity planning, and system performance analysis with GlancePlus PAK, plus OnlineJFS and MirrorDisk/UX for virtually unlimited file system and volume expansion.
The BOE provides an integrated HP-UX operating environment for customers requiring less complex installations. The Base OE offers complete HP-UX functionality including security, networking, Web functionality, and system and software management applications.
For customers with specific solution or development needs, the following software is available separately. This software requires HP-UX 11i to run on HP 9000 or Integrity servers.
