TechWise Research Inc., an independent primary market research firm, has published the following three research papers:
- One discloses fast customer payback when upgrading from HP 9000 servers to HP Integrity servers running HP-UX 11i
- The second underscores the business value return from consolidating workloads on HP-UX 11i v3 using its virtualisation technologies
- The third discusses quantified benefits in upgrading previous HP-UX 11i environments to HP-UX 11i v3.
A total of 130 customers were surveyed to collect optional data for HP Integrity and HP 9000 servers running the HP-UX 11i operating environment. Two key findings from the customer survey are that HP Integrity servers are more reliable than HP 9000 servers and that upgrading to HP-UX 11i v3 on Integrity has many benefits. Two key benefits include a 29% performance increase (on average) and a 56% reduction in unplanned downtime.

This paper depicts cost savings achieved by replacing a single HP-UX 9000 server with a HP-UX Integrity server. The results from 232 customer surveys show that the majority of companies view Integrity servers to be as good, or better, than HP 9000 servers. This study also shows that HP-UX on Integrity is just as easy to manage and as reliable as HP-UX on HP 9000.

'In three out of the four scenarios studied, the payback period is less than 2 years'.
'For Oracle database customers, the payback periods are even significantly less which makes the decision to upgrade a simple choice'.
'In doing this study, we also found that 20% of respondents are already using HP-UX Version 3 on one or more of their servers'.
This paper highlights the customer savings that can be achieved when consolidating workloads running on HP 9000 servers with HP-UX on Integrity servers with HP-UX 11i v3, with savings attributable to the features of HP-UX 11i v3, HP-UX 11i virtualisation technologies and the power of today's Integrity blade and rackmount servers.
In this study, 72% of respondents surveyed indicated that they will probably purchase one or more Integrity servers by December 2008, specifically to implement server virtualisation.

'The analysis shows that in three out of four scenarios studied, using HP Integrity servers to consolidate multiple HP 9000 servers running HP-UX pays for itself in 9 months or less. Due to the high performance and low cost of HP Integrity Blade servers and the functionality of Integrity Virtual Machine, it is possible to consolidate 8 HP 9000 servers into 2 Integrity Blades and have the consolidation pay for itself in just 5 months.'
