HP Pay per use (PPU) for HP Integrity and HP 9000 servers offers you real-time access to reserve capacity without having to pay for that capacity when not in use.
The system measures how much capacity your organization uses and bills you– if you use less, you pay less. In addition, HP caps the total payments to ensure you will never pay more than you would for a comparable lease.
It also provides utilization detail you can use to bill back internal or external organizations. HP PPU systems are located at your site, allowing you complete asset control.
PPU supports the HP 9000 high-end and mid-range servers based on the HP sx2000 chipset and the HP PA-8900 processor. Available on Linux as well as HP-UX, Windows and OpenVMS operating systems, PPU can even be used on all four operating systems concurrently on the same server. PPU is also available on dual-core Intel® Itanium® processor 8-socket and larger HP Integrity servers. |

| HP offers two types of Pay per use solutions for HP 9000 and HP Integrity servers-Percent Core and Active Core. |
Percent Core
| With this solution, Cores are active and available for use at all times, while a unique utility technology monitors the percent of each Core actually being used. All partition data is combined to compute Core utilization for the entire system for the day. Daily Core utilization amounts are averaged to come up with a monthly payment. Percent Core is available on HP Integrity servers running HP-UX, Windows, OpenVMS and Linux, as well as HP 9000 HP-UX servers. |

Active Core
| This solution determines which Cores are active and enables your organization to pay according to your level of usage. With Active Core, you determine when to light up additional capacity and when to shut it down, enabling you to monitor your organization's system usage and facilitating your ability to bill back to internal or external organizations. Active Core is available on HP Integrity servers running HP-UX, OpenVMS and Linux and HP 9000 HP-UX servers. |
