The new "work" paradigm
Until recently, “going to work” required a long commute to a physical office building. Then, as wireless technology came of age, the commute became considerably shorter—often walking from one room in the home to another or from home to a client site. The flexibility of a remote working model is appealing to many employees, enabling them to be online and productive during more hours of the day or night. Enticed by these increased productivity levels, employers were eager to provide laptops for their new mobile workforce.
Today, however, workers want much more. They want a “work wherever you are” model that supports the most advanced productivity tools available today—including their own notebooks, tablets, netbooks, and smartphones—enabling them to work at any time, from any location, using any device. This includes e-mail and corporate applications.
HP and Citrix have the solution that securely and cost-effectively enables BYOD and the mobile workforce—delivered as a complete, simple, cost-effective reference architecture (RA). Depending on how many users you want to support, you can choose from our Enterprise or SMB reference architectures. Fully tested, pre-sized, and optimized with VMware View, these blueprints will simplify and hasten your deployments.
HP Enterprise Reference Architecture with Citrix XenDesktop and Hyper-V
The HP Gen 8 Enterprise RA with Hyper-V has two types of configurations. This first one focuses on non-persistent environments where user data and OS images are separated and only brought together at user login. Leveraging cost-effective D2700 storage and BladeSystems, HP can deliver an optimized solution scalable to over 3,300 users.
If customers want to offer a mix of non-persistent and persistent (dedicated virtual machines with compute/storage dedicated to users whether logged in or not) the LeftHand P4800 SAN is introduced. The solution can support up to 2,340 users in a single rack and is a more common configuration for customers. Check out the technical whitepaper for more information.
HP Enterprise Reference Architecture with Citrix XenDesktop and vSphere
Unique in the industry, HP CV Gen8 RA for XenDesktop on vSphere integrates Citrix XenDesktop with HP client virtualization and VMware vSphere technologies. The solution supports the server-hosted virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) model, as well as:

Hosted-shared desktops |

Client-hosted desktop virtualization (DV) |

Virtualized applications |
Reference architectures are designed for both non-persistent, and a 50-50 mix of persistent and non-persistent desktops. For more technical information on deployment of these reference architectures, access the whitepaper.
By tailoring the desktop experience and providing alternative desktop delivery methods, HP CV Gen8 RA for XenDesktop on vSphere intelligently optimizes resource utilization.
Just have 100-300 users to support with client virtualization? HP now provides a reference architecture for smaller installations for a simple, easy-to-install solution.
HP SMB Reference Architecture with Citrix VDI-in-a-Box

Supporting 50% more users than previous reference architectures, this is an appliance-like configuration that includes Citrix Personal vDisk technology, which provides a more flexible, personalized application environment for end-users, while minimizing administration complexity and storage cost. By following the recommended guidelines for this pre-validated solution, you can estimate how many servers and what software licenses you need to support various user workloads. And because the solution follows a building-block approach, it scales on demand with no re-architecture or expensive infrastructure upgrades. We recommend that you assess the exact end-user environment to eliminate over-provisioning either manually in small offices or by leveraging services from HP or HP Partners.
