November 2011 Update Release

In November 2011, we introduced a number of new firmware, web, patch and solution updates, mainly focused on virtualization, but also for Java 7. This release advances the mission-critical Converged Infrastructure with HP-UX innovations that improve server efficiency, dynamic optimization, and provides investment protection and stability.

Expand and accelerate mission-critical virtualization

Gain efficiency dynamically adjusting Superdome 2 resources

Double server efficiency and keep applications up and running, adjusting computing resources without downtime.

Scale on demand and only pay for what is needed

  • Dynamically activate and deactivate reserve instant capacity (iCAP, TiCAP & GiCAP) between partitions, within or across server.
  • Increase financing flexibility with new Pay per use support of vPars v5 dynamic cores

Expand highly scalable virtualization to Integrity blades

  • Reduce costs by providing greater virtualization scalability, performance and more efficient resource utilization to Integrity blades with HP-UX Virtual Partitions v6.
  • Simplify vPar v6 management with: shared I/O, isolated console and storage, and new easy-to-use configuration GUI.

Accelerate deployment of virtualized, mission-critical solutions

Instantly adjust to dynamic business demands, and scale to support virtualization of any workload. Reduce configuration and deployment time with a proven, highly-optimized, preconfigured solution.

Investment protection and stability

Java™ 7 now optimized for HP-UX, a robust platform for mission-critical applications

  • Protect your investment in Java™ applications, supporting the next generation of Java™ technologies
  • Gain substantial performance increases on the Java™ VM using support for dynamic languages
  • HPjmeter optimized for Java™ 7 to identify and diagnose performance problems in Java™ applications

HP-UX 11i v3 September 2011 (Update 9)

The new release for HP-UX 11i v3 delivers strategic improvements that focus on virtualization, system management, security, and application development. These enhancements expand the management, virtualization, availability and security of your mission-critical Converged Infrastructure, while protecting your software investment.

Explore these enhancements on our HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment Updates data sheet (PDF, 617 KB).

Simplify and unify IT

Increase performance for file systems mounted on LVM volumes, with OnlineJFS file system version 5.01 now default within HP-UX.

Insight Remote Support (IRS) now provides non-root access to HP-UX managed servers. This prevents Windows administrator of the IRS system from having access to root privileges on managed HP-UX nodes.

Ease software development with updates to: C/C++ compiler, and Hpjmeter (Java performance optimizer)

Enhanced infrastructure management and virtualization

Extend your infrastructure management with HP Matrix OE 6.3, now included in the HP-UX 11i v3 Virtual Server Environment OE:

  • Simplify provisioning across more nodes with Federated CMS
  • Expand dynamic resource pool with Superdome 2 VMs
  • Simplify storage and I/O administration by integrating with 3PAR storage and multi-initiator NPIV

  • Simplify container manageability with HP-UX Containers 3.1 (Aug 2011 web release). Easily update HP-UX in a container environment. Clone containers for faster set up of new containers.

Enable consolidation of multiple private environments within an instance of the operating system, with system containers included in HP-UX Containers 3.0, which is now included within all OEs. Gain control with per-container administrator domains. Gain enhanced compliance with force-to-wire, which sends networking to the wire if external monitoring or auditing is required.

    Availability made simple

    High Availability
Expand IBM DB2 availability with the new HP Serviceguard Toolkit for IBM DB2 HADR by complementing the high availability provided by DB2 HADR replication. The Serviceguard Toolkit for IBM DB2 HADR is part of the HP Serviceguard Toolkits for Database Replication Solutions.

Increase uptime with Serviceguard disaster recovery for HP 3PAR storage arrays, providing synchronous data replication and automated failover.

Increase availability using SGeSAP. Keep SAP available with new Web Dispatcher integration. Simplify SAP deployment using Serviceguard Manager and ensure failover success with SAP cluster verification. Reduce Oracle licenses with SGeSAP and workload containers.

    Security
Increase data security with the latest cryptographic libraries and an encrypted network in the latest open source versions of SecureShell and OpenSSL (OpenSSL 0.9.8.q and OpenSSH 5.8).

Reduce security threats with updated security definitions within: OpenSSH, Bastille and IPFilter. Increase robustness and isolation of HP-UX Containers by adding Auditing and Host Intrusion Detection Services to HP-UX containers.

    Investment protection and stability

    Protect software investment
Enable legacy X.25 software applications to run unchanged on HP Integrity servers over TCP/IP on Ethernet hardware.

Leverage the power of Integrity servers by consolidating multiple HP 9000s onto a single Integrity server.
