HP Serviceguard keeps critical services continually up and running.
It does that by moving services between servers on the fly, so quickly and so transparently that users may not even realize it happened. Serviceguard can move applications automatically, such as in response to a failure, or at your command, such as when your Network Administrator needs to bring a server down in order to install a new LAN adapter.

HP Serviceguard Manager provides configuration, administration, and monitoring capabilities for environments protected with HP Serviceguard Solutions.
You gain a graphical, big-picture view of multiple clusters with drag and drop control that allows you to drill down and proactively manage clusters, systems (nodes), and packages that run applications. Plus, HP Serviceguard Manager is integrated with other management tools so you can manage virtual machines, server network settings and so on all from one interface.

Announcing enhanced HP Serviceguard Solutions for Oracle
HP announced two new additions to the Serviceguard Solutions Toolkits & Extensions family last fall. Serviceguard Storage Management Suites (SG SMS) have been simplified to make it easier to choose a solution for single-instance Oracle environments or Oracle RAC customer environments:

Extension for Oracle E-Business Suite (SGeEBS)

SGeEBS can save up to 93%1 on time and costs to cluster Oracle e-Business Suite. HP SGeEBS delivers fast and foolproof high availability for Oracle's E-Business Suite of enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), and supply-chain management (SCM) applications relying on Oracle database and can also eliminate up to 12 hours of planned downtime for Oracle EBS maintenance every month2.

Extension for SAP (SGeSAP)

Backed by world-class support from both HP and SAP, extends the powerful failover capabilities of Serviceguard to SAP environments to protect the SAP central instance and database―business-critical pieces in an SAP environment―within a Serviceguard cluster. As an added bonus, SGeSAP greatly simplifies SAP management and can decrease planned downtime when performing SAP upgrades.

Extension for RAC (SGeRAC)

HP Serviceguard Extension for RAC (SGeRAC) amplifies the availability and simplifies the management of Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), allowing you to integrate Oracle RAC into a Serviceguard cluster while easily managing the dependency between Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC with a full range of storage management options. As of May 2011, SGeRAC is licensed as part of the HA-OE and DC-OE Operating Environments as well as still being available as a standalone product option.

Enterprise Cluster Master Toolkit

This powerful bundle of Serviceguard Toolkits does all the work for you to integrate popular applications into an HP Serviceguard cluster. You gain plug-and-play high availability through fast, automated failure detection and application restoration. The HP Serviceguard Toolkit for NFS includes the configuration files and control scripts that allow you to use Serviceguard to set up highly available NFS servers. The configuration files are customized for your unique environment and include special health monitors that provide continual watch over NFS services.

Extended Distance Cluster

HP Serviceguard Extended Distance Cluster is a host-based data-replication configuration that can span up to 100 kilometers. With this configuration, a single Serviceguard cluster can be implemented across two or three data centers. Since HP Serviceguard is the only cluster license required, it is an inexpensive and easy-to-implement disaster recovery solution.

HP Serviceguard Continentalclusters is the most flexible Serviceguard Solution for disaster recovery, and uses multiple clusters to provide availability within and between two different clusters that can be an unlimited distance apart. This not only gives you complete protection against any failures within each cluster, but also the powerful ability to have one cluster immediately take over the operations of the other at the simple push of a button for maximum optimization of your resources.
HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite integrates HP Serviceguard Solutions with Veritas Storage Foundation technologies by Symantec to deliver improved availability, performance, and manageability for HP UX 11i Oracle Database and Oracle RAC environments. Serviceguard Storage Management Suites (SG SMS) have been simplified to make it easier to choose a solution for single-instance Oracle environments or Oracle RAC customer environments.

Enhanced database performance

Achieve close to "raw-volume" Oracle database performance all while you benefit from the manageability of a file system capable of dynamically scaling the database up to 40 terabytes. At the same time, you can reduce your storage costs by transparently relocating data to different classes of storage based on how important the data is and how often it is accessed.

Greater control of online storage management

Group physical disks into Disk Groups, improve storage utilization, and reduce storage-related downtime with SG SMS. Other features allow you to distribute I/O loads across multiple data paths to improve performance and move unimportant or out-of-date files to less-expensive storage.

Simplified Oracle RAC management

Experience improved manageability with the HP Serviceguard Cluster File System for RAC—one of the products within SG SMS—as a single storage management solution for both Oracle and application files. Traditionally, Oracle RAC management has entailed dealing with raw volumes, which usually adds complexity. Now, SG SMS provides all the conveniences of file-system manageability with close to raw volume performance
