Today, people expect to interact with Facebook, Twitter and other Web-enabled applications via cell phone, personal data appliances, computers and more. These evolving marketing requirements are driving communications service providers (CSPs) to transition their infrastructure.

CSPs must develop, deploy and manage rich, converged services that both engage users and deliver revenue. HP Service Delivery Platform (SDP) helps address these new services across multiple network types and generations.

SDP 3.0 offers a number of additional or expanded functionalities designed to leverage the newest service innovation resources. Here are the five most important new features.

RESTful gateway

The Internet is the most successful platform for delivering new services, enabling millions of downloads every day. Representational state transfer (REST) is a software architecture that uses Web technology and protocols. RESTful gateway automates access to Web tools and the Internet to simplify the creation of new services. The RESTful gateway provided with HP SDP 3.0 can automatically translate your Web services to REST application programming interfaces.

New service enablers

HP SDP 3.0 helps manage network assets and partnerships with developers, content providers and other business partners. This makes it easier to build new rich Internet applications and services. The platform offers a multitude of new service enablers, including:
  • Call control with HP Next Generation Intelligent Networks
  • Conferencing and videoconferencing
  • Address lists based on HP XML Document Management Server
  • Device capability based on HP Unified Device Capability Repository
  • Enhanced subscriber profile information

Service Orchestration Manager (SOM)

SOM defines business and new composite services workflow. It also provides off-the-shelf revenue-generating services that CSPs can host for third-party use. By delivering services that can be easily adjusted for subscriber relevancy, CSPs improve the likelihood that these services will be used. And when services are used, revenue is generated.

Revenue Management Module

HP SDP 3.0 has a flexible, integrated Web service module that allows CSPs to monetize network assets. Developers and content partners can access a simple revenue-sharing system that can handle the smallest transactions or the most complex revenue-sharing models. Other features include an e-wallet capability and offline and online charging elements.

Storefront Portal

This enhancement is designed to provide partners with end-to-end application development services. And there is a widget/application gallery to showcase those applications for end-user access and ratings. By providing a Web-based “sandbox,” the Storefront Portal encourages the widest possible involvement of developers looking for a platform-independent aggregator. Subscribers can browse and try out the services too.

Open doors to service innovation revenue

HP SDP 3.0 makes it easier for CSPs to build new applications and services. It offers the ability to create cost-effective revenue streams on a Web-based platform from a host of enhanced service enablers. The end result: more personalized services; improved collaboration; and cost-effective development and management of converged voice, data and content services.
