For companies everywhere, printing is an important part of daily work life. It’s also important to save money to get the most out of reduced budgets, as well as reduce the environmental impact of computing and printing.
For 50+ years, HP has been a leader in environmental sustainability, delivering solutions that make it easy for customers to reduce their environmental impact and save money. At HP, we take a comprehensive approach to designing products with the environment in mind. This begins with careful planning in the design, extends to the materials we use in the manufacturing process, right down to the product's "afterlife", where we offer many |

convenient and responsible recycling options for equipment and print cartridges.
We're not the only ones who can make a difference. We encourage your company to join us in practicing the five simple steps below. When you do, you'll be helping to get the most out of your printing products, while adopting practices that can reduce costs, as well as environmental impact. When budgets are being cut and organizations are more concerned then ever with how their money is spent, "Waste not, want not." |

- Utilize your network. Look for a vendor that has software and network management tools that give complete visibility into your imaging and printing environment to discover printing assets – networked or connected directly to PC's – to help you understand how they are being used, so you can project future needs.
- Tools like HP Web Jetadmin printer management software can help you determine if you have the right number and mix of devices. Web Jetadmin can help you discover underutilized devices; then you can make the decision on how to re-deploy, trade-in or recycle those products.
- By decreasing the number of printing & imaging devices, organizations often can reduce the number of print servers required, helping reduce energy use.
- Consider replacing some print, fax and copy stand alone products with multifunction printers. They take up less space and may help lower energy costs of printing and copying. Look for digital sending capabilities in the MFP's that can help reduce paper use.
- Use the HP Carbon Footprint Calculator for printing to estimate the cost, paper usage and carbon footprint of your current fleet and compare it to an optimized fleet. And, you can make side-by-side comparisons of older printers to new models.

- With Instant-on Technology, found on many HP LaserJet printers and MFP's, you can get up to 50% energy savings over traditional fusing, while providing a first page-out in seconds, up to 50% faster than competitive products.1
- Use HP Web Jetadmin to set sleep and wake modes on printers and MFPs to conserve energy at nights and on weekends.
- Look for products that are ENERGY STAR® qualified. HP is an original partner of the ENERGY STAR® program - a voluntary program designed to recognize and promote products that save energy while maintaining product performance.

- Choose suppliers who will responsibly manage and recycle technology hardware products and offer the ability to trade in old or unused products, so you can mitigate disposal risk and avoid regulatory complexities.
- Trust HP to responsibly manage and recycle technology products. Whether we recycle the products, reclaim the materials or put the product back into use, you can count on HP to do it efficiently. And HP uses standard processes to help destroy confidential data at end of use.
- Many print cartridge remanufacturers claim to be environmentally responsible; however, a third party research firm found that many of them avoid, and some even refuse, to collect their own-brand cartridges for recycling.
- HP's approach is to offer a free and convenient recycling program for HP print cartridges, and when possible, to reuse materials collected through the program in a variety of new products. The HP Planet Partners program, established in 1991, allows free and convenient return and recycling of HP toner and ink cartridges.
Trade in your old printer and receive up to $1000 in savings on a new HP printer. Find out how. |
