»  Learn more about Adaptive Infrastructure

Building next-generation global data centers was one of five major initiatives undertaken by Randy Mott, as part of the HP IT transformation program, when he joined HP in July 2005. At that time, Hewlett-Packard faced many of the same challenges its customers face in their technology infrastructure. The company had too many individual data centers—85 in total—too much operational expense, too many systems at low utilization, and too many different processes adding to complexity and risk.

The HP IT Transformation was undertaken with these goals in mind:

  • Reduce IT spend and complexity
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Provide better access to information
  • Speed delivery of new business services
  • Allow quick integration of acquisitions
  • Improve business continuity
  • Accommodate and drive business growth

HP needed to evolve its current environment to an Adaptive Infrastructure that’s ready to take the company into the future, and toward the better business outcomes. You can too.

Getting Started

Every organization is unique—with different business goals and objectives. Through our HP Data Center Transformation Services and Adaptive Infrastructure Maturity Model, we help customers assess the current state of their transformation journey. Customers can then leverage the same HP EYP Mission Critical Facilities experts that designed HP’s next generation data centers to build a data center transformation strategy that is just right for their business.

Technologies used in the HP IT Transformation

Increase your chance of successfully building your own Adaptive Infrastructure by leveraging the same technologies that helped HP IT to:

  • Reduce spend on internal IT
  • Consolidate more than 85 legacy data centers to six next-generation data centers
  • Consolidate more than 6,000 applications to approximately 1,500 standardized applications
  • Reduce annual energy consumption in its data centers by 60 percent
  • Decrease the number of servers by 40 percent while increasing processing power by 250 percent
  • Reduce networking costs by 50 percent while tripling bandwidth
  • Through portfolio management, deliver hundreds of high priority business innovation projects while transforming the IT infrastructure and operations
