Building next-generation global data centers was one of five major
initiatives undertaken by Randy Mott, as part of the HP IT transformation
program, when he joined HP in July 2005. At that time, Hewlett-Packard faced
many of the same challenges its customers face in their technology
infrastructure. The company had too many individual data centers—85 in total—too
much operational expense, too many systems at low utilization, and too many
different processes adding to complexity and risk.
The HP IT Transformation was undertaken with these goals in mind:
- Reduce IT spend and complexity
- Lower energy consumption
- Provide better access to information
- Speed delivery of new business services
- Allow quick integration of acquisitions
- Improve business continuity
- Accommodate and drive business growth
HP needed to evolve its current environment to an Adaptive Infrastructure
that’s ready to take the company into the future, and toward the better business
outcomes. You can too.
