UPS extends Green approach to its operations with HP

Make your mobile devices work harder–not your employees. Next time a package rolls down the line, your crew can scan it, send data wirelessly, and then print a label or message directly on the package with one simple, portable device. Sound revolutionary? It is. In fact, the HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One is the first and only scan-and-print solution to integrate a 2D barcode imager, inkjet printer and wireless communication in one device.

Standout benefits
  • Hands-free, mobile device increases your labor productivity
  • Lower operating costs
    • Save up to 1/2 the cost of thermal labels
    • Eliminate paper waste by imprinting on documents

Simplify logistical operations

This solution is ideal in cross-docking environments. Increase labor productivity, decrease operating expenses and optimize process efficiency. Incorporate the HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One into your scanning and labeling operation. It's the ideal solution for transportation and logistics, retail, manufacturing and other industries.

How it works

Users can wear the HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One on the back of their hand or use an optional handle mount.
  1. Point device at a 1D or 2D barcode, postal code or OCR code to capture supply-chain management information.
  2. Send the scan data to a warehouse management system or mobile computer via integrated Wi-Fi (or Bluetooth® coming in 2008) wireless connection and receive data back to the device.
  3. Roll device across package to apply a fast-drying, smudge-free non-toxic image (.53 x 2 inches).

Industry uses

Warehouse/distribution center

Integrate the HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One into your IT infrastructure and operational processes to enhance a variety of warehouse and distribution center applications including:
  • Picking and sorting

As workers navigate the warehouse to pick products for an order, they have a nonintrusive way to scan and mark products for sort. This hands-free device is a time-saver, allowing quick handling, scanning and printing.
  • Receiving and cross-docking
Consolidate scanning, labeling and routing of incoming units from many stations into one. This multitasking capability optimizes labor and significantly increases the throughput of units in a facility.
  • Process exceptions
Provide ad hoc yet standardized marking for products that don't fit within existing processes. Manually written messages on packages can be ambiguous, confusing or unintelligible to other facility workers. Workers can create legible marks that bear time, location and author annotations.
Airlines

Improve passenger experiences
  • Line services
Reduce customer wait-time by making simple travel adjustments and printing highly visible content on travel documents-saving paper and agent time.
  • Enhance security
Use the HP sp400 and a PDA with camera to scan IDs and photograph passengers. Then print photo and unique identifiers onto a boarding pass, enhancing overall security.
  • Document annotation
Agents can annotate transactions to improve the efficiency of all airport operations and get other agents quickly up to speed on passenger's status.
Reduce and prevent baggage mishandling
  • Baggage exceptions
Quickly identify, mark and highlight luggage-hands-free. Avoid lost or mishandled bags by marking bag with a highlighted symbol or note.
  • Rapid luggage sifting and sorting
Sort through and quickly identify luggage that requires special handling or has undergone a status change.
Quickly deliver needed parts and supplies
  • Reduce delivery time
Maintenance facilities can reduce order delivery time for critical parts while improving operations in receiving and fulfillment.
  • Improve dependability and reliability
Utilize state-of-the-art technology, unique features and HP reliability to meet the needs of your warehouse, distribution center and other parts of the retail supply chain. The HP Handheld sp400 All-in-One is a solution that will deliver the competitive edge in your industry.
