MIPA and Megatrack® by Capella Technologies

MegaTrack, a solution developed by HP partner Capella Technologies, helps companies take control of their printing resources and is a critical tool for any company looking to reduce consumable expenses and total cost of ownership while increasing accountability. It can help companies forecast device replacement needs and consumable purchases, and maximize their return on investment when planning future printer installations.
Once installed on your Windows NT/2000/2003 print-servers, the MegaTrack Print Server (MPS) software then monitors the print jobs and queries the attached printers to compile detailed information on printer usage. In combination with SecureJet, once fully integrated in the MFP firmware, SecureJet controls access to copy, scan, fax, e-mail, and user can authenticate themselves using PIN code, magnetic cards, proximity cards and other identification methods. In addition Securejet reports full information about each job. That information is pushed automatically to a PC where MegaTrack stores, computes and generates web reports for the IT manager (wishing to know how devices are used) and the procurement manager (wishing to know what department to bill for the usage).
With the Megatrack solution, users can monitor and track non-networked local printers as well as track information on copies, e-mail and fax activity on HP MFPs with the optional Jetmobile SecureJet solution interfaced with MegaTrack.
All the information collected can be consolidated in a central database and the MegaTrack Web-Server (MWS) component then prepares comprehensive, customized reports to illustrate current print usage and costs. These reports can also be exported into MS Excel with only one click, or automatically sent by e-mail.
Another component of the MegaTrack product family is MegaTrack In Printer Agent (MIPA). This new solutions lets you record and monitor HP LaserJet printer and MFP activity directly at the device, enhancing accountability and giving you the ability to assign costs, forecast expenses and target waste and abuse. By collecting data directly inside the printer or MFP, MIPA gives you a precise accounting of printing functions. Because this "in-printer" solution is not reliant on SNMP traps or MIB polling, MIPA offers improved accuracy and reliability over other tracking and data collection systems. Each time the printer or MFP finishes printing a document, MIPA collects important data about the job and records it to the printer’s hard disk or to a small amount of compact flash memory. The data can then be accessed and uploaded by the MegaTrack Reporting Tool (MTR), providing meaningful analysis of printer and MFP activity.

SafeCom Tracking
SafeCom Tracking records all activity (print, copy, scan, fax, and e-mail) on each device in the organization. Charging is based on the specific charging scheme of the device in use, making it possible to charge departments or users for the actual costs.
SafeCom Pay
SafeCom Pay is custom made for educational institutions and libraries. Each user has a personal account and must log in before use. Delinquent payers are avoided because no one can print or copy if the account goes below a specified amount. You can opt for full or partial cost recovery, or a quota control. FollowMe™, through the use of its Q-Server server software, is a complete control and audit solution that manages and accounts for usage of all printer and MFP services.
FollowMe™ works by attaching an authentication device to a printer, copier or MFP. When a user presents an ID at the device then all of the user’s current print jobs are released to the printer or MFP. In the case of a copier or MFP, assuming the user has the required permissions, additional functions such as copying become available.
It is also possible to use FollowMe™ as a software-only solution to control, monitor and account for printing. For HP MFPs manufactured after September 2004, a fully embedded solution is available that provides control of all the printer’s functions such as e-mail, fax and scanning.
