This white paper provides a comprehensive set of best practices targeted to medium-scale, enterprise-class SAP customers running Windows and MS-SQL to appropriately configure and productively deploy SAP NetWeaver and a typical ERP application onto an HP blade server and SAN-based infrastructure.

The white paper addresses the following fundamental deployment and operational issues:

  • The best way to configure the SAP landscape across the server blades, optimizing both performance and availability.
  • The effects of scaling the environment when a blade is added as an additional application server.
  • The appropriate configuration for the HP EVA disk array, including the following:
    – Choosing the appropriate number of disks
    – Configuring the disks into the appropriate number of EVA disk groups for both the SAP application components and the database
    – A comparison of VRAID1 and VRAID5.
    – The effects varying the size of the database
  • The benefits of properly configuring the number and types of SAP work processes.
  • The benefits of properly tuning SAP shared memory with emphasis on buffer parameters.
