This white paper provides data, methodologies and processes to effectively plan, configure, deploy and manage a fully operational SAP NetWeaver production landscape on HP server/storage infrastructure. The information is ideally suited to customers that are either currently running SAP R/3 and are planning to upgrade to a NetWeaver-based version; or are currently running NetWeaver, and are looking to make a technology refresh of their servers and/or storage.
Highlighted is the deployment and operation of an ERP-based workload running on ProLiant Servers and EVA8000 Storage in a Windows environment, and using an MS-SQL database, with emphasis on the following fundamental deployment and operational issues:
- Server selection, specifically the appropriate sizes and configurations for the servers
- Deployment of the various components of the SAP system (Central Instance, dialog instances, and database) on these servers
- The appropriate configuration for the HP EVA disk array, including the optimal number, size, configuration and RAID-level of the EVA disk groups for both the SAP application components and the database
