Fraud management system

Communications fraud is a global problem that threatens the profits of telecommunications companies around the world. The problem is so large that some recent estimates measure combined fraud losses between US$35-40 billion dollars per year (estimates courtesy of the Communications Fraud Control Association [CFCA]). Perpetrators of telecommunications fraud are often complex and technically advanced organizations that develop and implement new exploits quickly in an effort to steal as much service from as many vulnerable carriers as is possible.

Often times, before the threat is even identified, losses can add up to millions of dollars. In some cases, poorly protected operators must watch the losses mount while they seek to develop protection against the new exploits. HP Fraud Management System can help protect carriers from known risks while enabling them to quickly respond rapidly to emerging threats and exploits.

The HP Fraud Management System (FMS) protects telecommunication carriers' revenue by identifying and stopping fraud quickly and effectively. HP FMS is used to protect networks at over 65 carriers in 34 countries worldwide, providing a cumulative coverage umbrella for nearly 230 million subscribers each day. Because the nature of fraud can change within hours as the perpetrators of fraud discover new exploits, HP FMS is engineered to be responsive enough to adapt to specific fraud vulnerabilities as they arise, while maintaining effective protection against known exploits.

Effective fraud solutions must accommodate such rapidly changing behavior and provide continuous and complete coverage for growing carriers-and during network spikes that can double or triple the amount of expected traffic. While many fraud solutions claim to provide such coverage, HP FMS has a proven track record of actually delivering such solutions with a return on investment often measured in months, not years.

HP Revenue Analyzer - HP's Revenue Analyzer (HP RA) solution is a significant extension to its industry-leading HP Fraud Management Solution (HP FMS). HP Revenue Analyzer enables service providers to better protect hard-earned revenue from losses that occur due to errors and leakage.  With HP Revenue Analyzer, HP FMS now integrates fraud management and revenue assurance into a single revenue protection solution.

Why HP?

  • Losses from fraud are cut dramatically-some of our customers have reported loss reduction of more than 90 percent, with pay-back periods of a few weeks to a few months
  • A less obvious benefit realized by HP FMS users is incremental revenue-carriers can now offer services that they previously thought were too risky; effective fraud management with HP FMS enables them to offer these 'risky' services profitably; in addition, HP FMS can detect the presence of unbilled calls, which also represent uncollected revenue due to insider and dealer fraud
  • Operators also see significant productivity gains within their fraud organization-analysis review more cases in a more effective manner, with rapid response to fraud reducing the losses at the same time
  • The scalability of HP FMS enables the carrier to grow without the fraud organization becoming a bottleneck, while maintaining thorough analysis-many other solutions can only handle higher volumes by first filtering out much of the data, thus increasing the potential for fraud going undetected
