Generic Number Translator (GNT) enables operators to do many types of number translations in the network. Whether connected to another service such as wireless e911, or used on its own, GNT can be used as a basis for a number of different services such as wireless e911. Or, used on its own, GNT can serve as a basis for a number of different services, such as:
- Abbreviated Dialing to Businesses-Subscribers dial a shortened number (for example, *99) and are routed to a business or service
- Customer Care to Home-Subscribers dial a defined customer service number and are connected to their home customer service center from anywhere in the network
- Voice Mail Translations-Subscribers dial a predefined voice mail access number anywhere in the service provider's network and are directed to their home voice mail system
- Traffic Announcement-Subscribers dial a defined number anywhere in the network and receive their local traffic report through announcement or short message
Number translations can be based on mobile switching center identification, location identification, mobile identification number, international mobile subscriber identity, directory number, and/or service key.
