This solution addresses the impact of and capability of Automatic Storage Management (ASM) on various configurations in an Oracle 10g RAC environment. In particular, how to best utilize ASM storage virtualization features in conjunction with EVA virtualization is addressed and where these products can and should co-exist. Additionally, the batch, OLTP, and DSS load types and whether these different data access methods impact the configuration's best practice are covered. Details on the optimal EVA configuration with respect to disk groups, database file layout, and mapping to corresponding ASM disk groups are provided.
