Going for grid? HP Services helps you get there.

The Globus Toolkit is a widely-used open-source software package developed by the Globus Alliance and others to facilitate the implementation of grids. It is a fundamental enabling technology for the grid, allowing people to share remote resources such as computing power and databases securely across organizational boundaries without sacrificing local autonomy.

The Globus Toolkit includes software services and libraries for resource monitoring, discovery, and management as well as security and file management. HP has ported, tested, and tuned the Globus Toolkit on all our servers running HP-UX, Tru64 UNIX and Linux, including Integrity Systems (IA-64), HP 9000 (PA-RISC) systems and HP AlphaServers.

Download the Globus Toolkit

You can download the Globus Toolkit (GT) and corresponding installation instructions from the Globus Toolkit web site, or you can download source versions that have been modified to support HP systems:´

  • Globus Toolkit 4.0.2, 4.0.3:  Download directly from the Globus Web site. No additional patches are required to build this release on HP platforms.

  • Globus Toolkit 3.2.1:  Download directly from the Globus Web site.  Contact us if you require a version of GT 3.2 that includes support for HP-UX 11i/Integrity (IA-64).

  • Globus Toolkit 2.4.3 bundles: Contact globus.support@hp.com for a modified source version of GT 2.4 that includes support for HP-UX 11i/Integrity (IA-64).

HP also supplies the Globus Toolkit as a pre-built software depot through its HP-UX Internet Express distribution. This product can be obtained free-of-charge from the HP Software Depot (search keyword = ''globus''). The Globus depot requires the "Sudo", "Ant", and "PostgreSQL" Internet Express depots.

Platform notes for Globus Toolkit on HP systems

To automate the task of building, installing, configuring and maintaining multiple versions of the Globus Toolkit across a heterogeneous set of systems, HP recommends using the GTbuild utility.  GTbuild is one of the tools developed by HP to deploy and manage the HP internal grid (Ingrid).  It is available in the public domain under a BSD-style license.  A manual page is included, and while GTbuild is not officially supported by HP, you may submit questions and fixes using the Global Toolkit feedback form

Before building any version of the Globus Toolkit on an HP system, please read the corresponding platform notes:

Building the Globus Toolkit on HP cluster solutions

Globus Toolkit 4.0.1 (GT4) has been installed and tested on XC Clusters and TruClusters, and Globus Toolkit 2.4.3 (GT2) has been installed and tested on TruClusters and AlphaServer SC systems. To install Globus on these systems, follow the instructions linked to the HP cluster solutions listed below.
