Overview

HP Session Allocation Manager (SAM) is a software management tool optimized for Remote Client Solutions like Workstation Blades, PC Blades, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. SAM acts as the RCS control center by unifying the provisioning, management, and migration of desktop resources from one central administrative tool.

HP SAM can manage the assignment of end user connections to desktop sessions running on hardware in a datacenter via either Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) or HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS). SAM makes these sessions available to users as needed.

HP SAM is logically broken up into three distinct software components:

  • SAM Client running on any access device, typically a thin client
  • SAM Blade Service running on a computing resource like a blade or VM server
  • SAM Web Server with an associated SQL database

Features

Manager (SAM) is a tool that makes it easy to install, learn how to use, and manage a Remote Client Solution deployment by providing:

  • Simple user administration/provisioning through one location
  • Addition of new compute resources using an auto-configuration plug and play method
  • Centralized management of client MS-RDP and HP-RGS settings through associated global, group, or user policies with optional user override
  • Follow-me roaming and persistence
  • Usage and planning reports
  • Support for capacity planning with extensive and extensible reporting features or user or device trends with roll-up capability
  • Allocation system to assign users to fixed or dynamic computing resources
