HP Session Allocation Manager (SAM) is a software management tool optimized for Remote Client Solutions like Workstation Blades, PC Blades, and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. SAM acts as the RCS control center by unifying the provisioning, management, and migration of desktop resources from one central administrative tool.
HP SAM can manage the assignment of end user connections to desktop sessions running on hardware in a datacenter via either Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) or HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS). SAM makes these sessions available to users as needed.
HP SAM is logically broken up into three distinct software components:
- SAM Client running on any access device, typically a thin client
- SAM Blade Service running on a computing resource like a blade or VM server
- SAM Web Server with an associated SQL database
