Laying a solid foundation for the future HP believes that security must be built-in and not bolted-on as an afterthought, a philosophy that requires a new level of maturity for IT security. As a step towards the attainment of this maturity, HP believes that the development and implementation of new security standards will set a solid foundation for the future, so we are strong supporters of standards across the complete spectrum of security technology. While HP delivers identity management solutions for enterprises today via techniques such as intelligent provisioning and single sign-on, attaining true federated identity management between enterprises is only possible through standards. HP works with industry initiatives such as the Liberty Alliance in order to help enable federated identity management across multiple platforms, applications and communities.
Trusted Computing technology and open standards play a major role in charting the future of enterprise security. HP is an early founder and promoter of the Trusted Computing Group (TCG), created specifically to advance state-of-the-art technology in trusted infrastructures. The TCG brings together key companies from the IT industry, including HP, IBM, Microsoft, Sun, Intel, Nokia, Sony, Verisign, Dell and Motorola. TCG specifications provide an open set of security related “building blocks” that can be built into:
- PCs, servers, mobile and embedded devices
- Operating systems (Linux, Windows, UNIX and Solaris
- Solution frameworks like Web Services
HP is working to redesign the core building blocks of our own computing platform architectures, providing in-built security features in both the hardware platforms and operating system software that we build. For more information, see the:
