The average lifecycle for a professional desktop is 12 to 15 months. You know what that means, of course – every year to year and a half you have to learn a whole new hardware configuration, and evaluate all your software to ensure it’s compatible with the new PCs. And if you swap out a fourth or a third of your PC fleet every year? You probably feel like the process never ends. For self-maintaining IT shops, it also means tossing all the old spare parts you bought for previous configurations and starting over again.
HP understands the frustrations and inefficiencies inherent in continuous lifecycles, and answers them with the new HP rp5700 Business Desktop. The rp5700 has a 60-month lifecycle. That means that rp5700 desktops are guaranteed to maintain the same solid, stable configurations for five full years. What can this kind of innovation mean for your organisation?
Stability reduces complexity
With a five year lifecycle, you can make sure your internal IT resources (or outsourced IT consultants) become experts on one stable, dependable configuration. The more they learn about the rp5700, the quicker and easier it is to support. Reducing one hardware configuration per PC will save you $12 in support costs per year for every PC in the installed base. Cutting the number of hardware configurations in half can reduce support costs by 25 to 55 percent.
And with greater stability comes greater security. Software and security patches are much easier to roll out if you know how they will affect your systems, and how to best deploy them.
Change at your pace
The HP rp5700 Business Desktop provides a stable OS environment for organisations that must maintain custom developed applications that may only work with Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional or even Windows 2000. The rp5700 will continue to support those operating systems for five years – all the way through 2012.
The rp5700 allows you to tackle the change to a new OS in the way most comfortable to you and your organisation. Your rp5700 will ship with Windows XP installed, but with Vista upgrade disks and a Vista Certificate of Authority (CoA) so that when you’re ready to upgrade, it’s incredibly easy.
Environmental impact – EnergyStar 4.0 and EPEAT Gold Compliance
Every rp5700 desktop comes standard with an 80PLUS Efficient Power Supply, and can be purchased in an EnergyStar compliant configuration. The new ENERGY STAR 4.0 guideline, effective on July 20, 2007 has as one of its primary requirements an 80% efficient power supply, which offers a range of potential rewards that benefit you financially while helping the environment by reducing power consumption:
- Increased power supply reliability due to greater efficiency
- Decreased system maintenance due to increased reliability
- Lower TCO due to reduced maintenance and longer equipment life
- Improved worker environment with less noise from the PC
- Potential reduction in cooling bill due to less heat being generated by PCs
HP rp5700 Business Desktop features – made for the long haul
The rp5700 desktop has features that are specially made for long term operation:
- Multiple OS support: Microsoft Windows®2000, Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista®
- Optional RAID1 configurations:RAID combines multiple hard drives into a single, logical unit using identically sized disks, improving fault tolerance with seamless switching in the event of a failure. This data mirroring technique means everything is copied fully on each separate disk. All this happens automatically – the user does nothing to make it happen.
- Customise at will with all the ports and slots you’ll ever need, including two serial RS232 and two full-height PCI slots standard
- If you have a customer facing environment, you can use the same PC for the front and the back offices.
- Rugged construction that’s also environmentally friendly
- Steel, unpainted chassis that is easy to recycle
- Cool, quiet performance for a more productive office
- Gold-plated connections for years of rugged use
As a further incentive, HP is also offering SmartBuys with integrated four or five year warranty terms. No buying a separate CarePack – you get support integrated right into the SKU.
