The NonStop system was architected from the beginning as a virtualized system. Four elements—the server, the network, storage and business-critical applications—are pooled and shared in a way that is transparent to the end user. Together, these resources form the NonStop virtual system environment. Built-in clustering and integrated resources reduce complexity and optimizes utilization.

HP NonStop servers can simultaneously handle complex, real-time transaction processing; standard queries; and large ad hoc queries against terabytes of storage without partitioning workloads. The NonStop system can balance workloads with prioritized tasks—transactions, queries, and batch processing—so the most critical tasks receive the shortest turnaround.
