In June, HP brought its proven NonStop 24/7 leadership to the server blade form factor with the introduction of the HP Integrity NonStop BladeSystem—the world’s first 24/7 mission-critical computing environment on a standards-based bladed infrastructure.

Now HP announces the immediate availability of a distinct Integrity NonStop Carrier-grade BladeSystem for customers in the communications, media, and entertainment (CME) industry: the Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg BladeSystem. The Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg is designated as “carrier grade” and is a Network Equipment-Building System (NEBS) Level 3 certified system, having successfully tested and passed NEBS Level 3 physical and environmental requirements.

Verizon Wireless has built a reputation in the marketplace as having the nation’s most reliable wireless network and HP NonStop technology has played a critical part in that for many years now. We think the Integrity NonStop BladeSystem will continue to offer superior reliability with even greater performance--and at the same time, will help us to reduce our internal costs.”
--Dan Belenets, Executive Director, National Network Operations, Verizon Wireless

Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg BladeSystem for the CME industry
Combining the economies of standards-based, modular computing with the trusted high availability and data integrity of NonStop technology, the Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg BladeSystem has half the footprint of Integrity NonStop NS-series CG systems, yet delivers up to twice as much processing power per unit of floor space within the same power envelope.

At the same time, the Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg preserves the proven, dependable, and highly available attributes of the NonStop environment, empowering telecommunications carriers to add new capacity to existing facilities at a lower per-transaction cost and a lower total cost of ownership.

The Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg offers telecommunications carriers:

  • Support for telecommunication business interactions with the highest levels of service
  • Double the performance in half the footprint
  • Reduced IT and per-transaction costs in a trusted NonStop fault-tolerant environment
  • A simplified infrastructure and lower TCO for complex mission-critical applications
  • Leading integrated virtual application environment, allowing for ease of resource enhancement
  • A solid foundation to leverage and capitalize on change
  • One-stop accountability and a complete portfolio for an industry-leading CME solution
  • Flexible financing options and services enhanced for 100 percent application availability
  • Unmatched expertise through HP Services
  • Investment protection for previous generations of NonStop server–based applications

New Storage, IP, and Telco Cluster I/O Modules
With the Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg, HP introduces a novel carrier-grade I/O infrastructure offering enhanced capabilities that complement new blade and multi-core processor technologies. These new carrier-grade storage and communications I/O controllers and adapters are built on standards-based servers and are tightly integrated with the Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg via its server area network, known as ServerNet. Called CLuster IO Modules (CLIMs), there are three functional types available.

  • Carrier-grade Storage CLIM
Enables attachment of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disks (3.5-inch 15,000-RPM disks) and Fibre Channel disks and tapes.
  • Carrier-grade IP CLIM
Supports up to five gigabit-per-second copper Ethernet ports—plus TCP/IP v6 and v4, IP Security (IPSec), and the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) for the telecommunication industry.
  • Carrier-grade Telco CLIM
Supports up to five gigabit-per-second copper Ethernet ports—plus the M3UA protocol for connection to the Signal System 7 (SS7 over IP) communication standard used by telecommunication switching systems to control call setup and management.

The NonStop Multi-core Architecture (NSMA)
The Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg employs the NonStop Multi-core Architecture (NSMA)—a performance oriented system software architecture that supports multi-core processing, featuring Intel® Itanium® 9100 series dual-core 1.66GHz processors. The NSMA runs relational database and transaction processing software. It also supports advanced storage area network (SAN) products from the HP StorageWorks product family.

With the introduction of the NSMA also comes a new release series of the NonStop Operating System, called the J-series, which has been designed for the multi-core architecture environment. The Integrity NonStop NB50000c-cg ships with the NonStop Operating System for telecommunications carriers (bundles QSN21, TQSN21).
