HP NonStop Security – NSC Security Program

The HP NonStop System Console Security Program provides NonStop customers security information to help them protect their NonStop System Console (NSC), in order to meet security policies and pass compliance audits.  

HP delivers three types of software on the NSC:

• HP software developed specifically for use with NonStop systems
• HP software developed specifically for use on Windows based-systems
• Third-party software provided by HP as part of a software package

The NSC is shipped with all software loaded so that it is ready to install and use in the customer environment. Updates to this software are shipped via NSC DVDs.

HP ships two types of NSC hardware, a desktop version of the console with optional monitor and keyboard as well as a rack-mounted console which is installed within the NonStop system cabinet. Both devices ship with the Microsoft 2003 Server R2 operating system. Antivirus and firewall software packages for the NSC

The NSC Security Policy allows NonStop customers to install antivirus and firewall packages qualified by HP for use on the NSC without violating HP’s support contracts. Customers must purchase qualified antivirus and firewall packages directly from the third-party vendors that sell them. HP does not resell these software packages. Security patches for Microsoft and other third-party software 

For the Microsoft operating system being actively shipped with the NSC, Windows 2003 Server, HP verifies through qualification testing that the security patches from Microsoft and other third parties can be safely installed on the NSC without negative impact to the operation of the NSC. This qualification testing completes every month within 30 days of Microsoft’s security patch announcement. HP tests with all patches that Microsoft’s installer indicated were applicable to the software on the NSC every month. Customers are encouraged to install the security patches in a timely manner to secure the NSC and comply to audit requirements, as needed by their business.
