HP NonStop customers have grown increasingly concerned about the security of sensitive or regulated data. Security solutions such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems can be deployed at the network perimeter but these fail to address the majority of attacks that originate inside the firewall. When data is stored in clear text, insiders, contractors, or attackers can easily gain access to sensitive information. Such risk to data multiplies when organizations migrate from direct-attached storage to networked environments.

Locking down stored data

By locking down stored data with strong encryption and transparently routing all access through secure hardware, DataFort appliances radically simplify the security model for data in Fibre Channel–connected storage. The encryption solution uses NetApp’s third-generation Lifetime Key Management (LKM) system to provide enhanced enterprisewide key archiving and retrieving features. HP has qualified the DataFort appliance as a recommended solution for encrypting data stored on Fibre Channel–connected disks on the NonStop Integrity and NonStop S-series servers.

Key features

  • Complete security for stored data with strong disk encryption from one powerful appliance.
  • Transparent routing of all access through secure hardware, with no software agents required on the NonStop server.
  • DataFort scalability to meet growth in enterprise security requirements, in keeping with NonStop fundamentals.
  • Greater flexibility with NetApp DataFort capabilities to compartmentalize data in shared storage and enable secure backup and disaster recovery from remote locations.

More information

The DataFort appliance is sold and supported by the Storage Security Business Unit division of Network Appliance.
