Summary
This communication is to inform you about the HP NonStop server product plans with respect to the European Union (EU) Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS ) Directive.
RoHS compliance will be implemented for all HP NonStop products sold after June 30, 2006.
Some NonStop products will not be RoHS compliant and can no longer be sold; these exceptions are listed in this document.
What is the HP position on RoHS?
HP is committed to compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive that will restrict the use of lead (Pb), mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and two bromine-containing flame retardants: polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic products.
As a result of the RoHS directive, some HP hardware products will be discontinued from sales with no replacement product being introduced. This decision is the result of careful study of the historical demand for the products and HP’s product strategy going forward.
HP’s goal is to exceed compliance obligations by meeting the requirements of the RoHS Directive on a worldwide basis.
By July 1, 2006, RoHS substances will be virtually eliminated (to levels below legal limits) for all HP electronic products subject to the RoHS Directive, except where it is widely recognized that there is no technically feasible alternative (as indicated by an exemption under the EU RoHS Directive).
Where does RoHS apply?
The RoHS Directive applies to the following:
- All products sold in the EU member nations must be RoHS compliant after June 30, 2006.
- California has enacted similar legislation (SB50), which will become effective on January 1, 2007.
- In addition, China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, and the states of Massachusetts, Vermont, Hawaii, and Connecticut have legislation either under consideration or pending.
How will HP address RoHS compliance?
- RoHS compliance will be implemented for all HP NonStop server products sold after June 30, 2006.
- The HP NonStop S88000, the S7800, the S78, and all Integrity NonStop systems will be RoHS compliant effective June 30, 2006.
- All other NonStop server products will be RoHS compliant, with the exceptions listed below.
Which HP NonStop server products will not be RoHS compliant?
The products listed below will not be RoHS compliant and have been discontinued from sales on the “Last order date” listed, and no replacement product is planned.
NonStop S86000, S78000, S780, and earlier systems will not be RoHS compliant. The following table provides a complete list of the affected products. HP will continue to sell NonStop S88000, S7800, and S78 Servers.
